The SIC launched the fast track examination procedure for trademarks and commercial slogans

The Industrial Property Office of the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) of Colombia launched in October, the Fast Track Examination Procedure for  trademarks and commercial slogans . This new alternative for trademark and commercial slogans’ solicitors will optimize time in the examination of form during the trademarks’ registry process. It will also reduce time between the submission of the application and its publication in the Industrial Property Gazette.

Through resolution N° 70252 of 2018, the SIC established the special conditions to request the Fast Track Examination Procedure for trademarks and commercial slogans: First, the application must target nominative, figurative or composite trademarks and/or commercial slogans. Second, the application will only proceed through the Digital Office of the Industrial Property System –SIPI, by accessing the SIC’s official website: www.sic.gov.co. Third, the solicitor must exclusively use the roster of products and/or services pre-approved by the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce. Fourth, the solicitor cannot request the Fast Track Examination Procedure if he wants to benefit from one of the deductions considered by the Industrial Property Office. Fifth, the solicitor must accept the possibility of having its application returned to the initial examination phase if the Superintendence identifies, during the process, features to be corrected.

The Fast Track Examination Procedure does not imply an additional cost. In this sense, solicitors must only pay for the established fees for trademarks and commercial slogans’ registration.
