SIC sanctions CLARO for misleading advertising

20 Septiembre, 2022

The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC), as national consumer protection authority, has sanctioned COMUNICACIÓN CELULAR COMCEL (CLARO) with a fine of COP $2,463,000,000 (about USD $556.000), for misleading advertising and confusing users by disseminating incomplete and inaccurate information regarding the discount conditions of the fixed internet plans.

It was proven that CLARO failed to provide essential information about the discount, such as: it was only addressed to lower classes (citizens of strata 1 and 2), beneficiaries of Law 1699 of 2013 (retired people from the military or police forces, among others) and new users.

In that sense, by not providing essential and crucial information, it was likely to cause consumers to make wrong and unaware decisions, preventing them from making reasonable consumer choices.
