Mr. Juan Manuel Serrano, Coordinator of the Oppositions and Cancellations Group of the SIC, participated in the “Intellectual Property Seminar on Industrial Designs and Absolute Grounds”, which took place in Alicante, Spain, on march of the present year. This seminar brought together different Industrial Property authorities from around the world to jointly analyze the absolute causes of denial and the different procedures applied to industrial designs.

Mr. Serrano’s intervention addressed the advances made by the country in relation to judicial and legislative developments, made by the Andean Community, regarding non-traditional trademarks. The different panels in the event allowed him to share experiences with other experts from the European Patent Office (EUIPO) on issues absolutely relevant for the national practice: like trademark color distinctiveness, specific descriptions and non-traditional signs.
