Seminar on the New European Framework and its Impact on Ibero-America

Seminar on the New European Framework and its Impact on Ibero-America

The Deputy Superintendent for Personal Data Protection, Mrs. María Claudia Corcione Morales, attended the seminar named “Europe and Ibero-America: A Common Vision of Data Protection. The New European Framework and its Impact in Ibero-America”, which was organized by the Ibero-American Data Protection Network (RIPD, for its acronym in Spanish) and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID, for its acronym in Spanish). This event took place in Montevideo, Uruguay, from November 8 to 9 of 2016.

The RIPD is an integrating forum that develops initiatives and projects related to the protection of personal data in Latin America; its purpose is to promote, maintain and strengthen the exchange of information and good practices on personal data protection. On the other hand, AECID is an entity attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain, responsible for promoting the full exercise of development and balance in international relations. In this opportunity, both agencies organized the abovementioned Seminar, whose objective was to gather data protection authorities and other public institutions, in order to share experiences and knowledge, and promote normative developments to guarantee the protection of personal data rights in Latin America.

Our participation was very important because the SIC is a member of the RIPD, and this position enable us to enrich and update our technical knowledge on personal data protection. Moreover, Mrs. Caviedes was invited to participate as a speaker in a panel to share the Colombian experience in investigations and decisions on this field. Some of the topics that were discussed in the Seminar were the right to be forgotten, the main developments in the European data protection regulation, digital education and the protection of children, and the strategies of data protection authorities in the international arena.
