Personal data: An asset that public entities must protect

The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (hereafter SIC) and the Office of the Procurator General joined together to train public servants regarding the requirements and the databases registering procedure in the Databases National Registry (RNBD, by its acronym in Spanish).

The Deputy Procurator for Patrimony Defence, Transparency, and Integrity, Mr. Wilson Alejandro Martínez, called on the public entities to ensure effective compliance with Habeas Data standards in order to ensure people's data protection rights.

Additionally, the Deputy Superintendent for the Protection of Personal Data, Nelson Remolina, urged the public officials to comply with the RNBD in order to provide quality during the processing of information. Dr. Remolina revealed that of 35,000 organizations that have made the registration only 1945 of them correspond to public entities.

It should be remembered that the RNBD is a strategic tool whose functions revolve around the protection of information; the generation of trust among citizens; the improvement of public management and the promotion of transparency.
