During 2019, more than 40,000 lawsuits have been filed by consumers looking for the protection of their rights

The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (hereinafter SIC), as the national consumer protection authority, has received a total of 40,497 lawsuits this year from consumers seeking justice in the claim of their rights.

In addition to the above, the Delegation of Jurisdictional Affairs has completed a total of 26,662 processes related to consumer rights. Likewise, it should be noted that of the total number of cases handled by this entity, 76% have to do with violations of the guarantees enjoyed by consumers, this being the right for which most is claimed.

On the other hand, according to data from the Superindustry, to date the lawsuits for acts of unfair competition and infringements of industrial property rights total 244, while the Delegation has terminated 219 proceedings. Due to the dynamics of the market it is frequent that precautionary measures are requested in these two matters, which is reflected in the fact that during 2019 a total of 215 have been presented.
