The SIC celebrated the Fourth International Congress on Users’ Protection on Communication Services
In order to commemorate the International Consumer Protection Day, the Deputy Superintendence for Consumer Protection of the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (hereinafter, Superindustria or SIC) celebrated the Fourth International Congress on Users’ Protection on Communications Services, in Bogotá D.C., Colombia, from March 14 to 15.
On this occasion, the Superintendent of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Andrés Barreto González presented the model conferring surveillance and control faculties to the SIC with its preventive approach, based on self-regulation practices that service providers can implement within their companies to properly comply with their obligations with the users.
The Congress addressed topics such as the digital society and user’s empowerment from the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (Min TIC) perspective. It also presented the view of the Communication Regulation Commission (CRC) on users’ protection on communication and postal services, the new trends in regulatory policies for users from the OECD standpoint, the user interaction with the competition regime from an academic expert side, among other topics.
Finally, during the Congress, the Deputy Superintendent for Consumer Protection launched the Fraud Prevention Month announcing a press release and displaying the campaign videos, and infographics prepared to prevent consumers on misleading offers in online holiday/travel sector.
