Colombia assumed the Vice-Presidency of the RCSS

Colombia assumed the Vice-Presidency of the RCSS

On October 26, 2016, the SIC, representing Colombia, handed over the Presidency of the Network of Consumer Safety and Health (RCSS, for its acronym in Spanish) of the Organization of American States (OAS) to the National Directorate of Consumer Protection of Argentina. This, in the framework of the III Plenary of the RCSS, carried out in the city of Buenos Aires on the mentioned date.

The SIC, in turn, assumed the Vice-Presidency of the RCSS along with the Federal Consumer Protection Bureau of México (PROFECO, for its acronym in Spanish). Thanks to this, we embraced the responsibility to keep promoting product safety at an international level and continue the arduous work of positioning the Network’s results globally.

The primary objective of this new period will be to create a space in which member countries can work together to defend consumer rights, ensuring the integrity of citizens of all nations and identifying unsafe products in the markets. Another purpose will be to eradicate such unsafe products and take specific measures in the matter, with the collaboration of the specialized authorities of each country.

What is the RCSS?

It is an Inter-American mechanism specialized in promoting the protection of consumers’ rights, the surveillance of products’ safety and the impact on consumers’ health and well-being.
