Given the alarming increase in the complaints that have come about identity theft, the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce forwarded a letter to all the Colombian telecommunications operators, seeking to strengthen the measures to protect people’s real identity during contracting processes.

This communication came after the SIC verified that between January 1 and June 26 of this year, 1.705 complaints had been received due to identity theft. This evidences a 122% growth with respect to the same period in 2018, in which the Entity received 767 complaints. The sectors with the highest number of impersonation complaints are: telecommunications companies with 69.6%; followed by the catalogue sales sector with 30.4%.
